In September, we hosted our first ever Women in Education conference in Accra, Ghana! The conference was planned entirely by our first cohort Fellows, with former Fellow and new Ghana Country Advisor Rose Dodd taking the lead. With over 100 attendees and several inspiring guest speakers, the conference was a huge success and an excellent way for Fellows to wrap up their two-year Fellowships.
In addition to moving remarks from our first Ghana Country Advisor, Tawiah Agyrako-Kwarteng, and Mentor Brigitte Dzogbenuku, the conference consisted of four main sessions connected to our theme: The Future of Education.
In Empowering Adolescent Girls: Breaking the Barriers, Fellows Grace Amponsah, Shine Dewovo, and Saudatu Mohammed Danladi, Founder of LifeAgain, were joined by Sally Ofori Yeboah, the National Director of our partner organization CAMFED Ghana, to discuss the key to increasing access to and quality of girls' education. A panel of experts hosted another session titled Providing Quality and Accessible Early Childhood Education for Marginalized Families: the role of stakeholders. Watch this recording (passcode: !NI7%7=U) to hear the perspectives of Fatimah Hallu Alhassan, Professional Teacher at Ghana Education Service; Saraswati Efua Arthur, Founder of The Reading Factory; Professor Sakina Acquah, Dean of Faculty of Education Studies at the University of Education; Bright Dey, Head of the Planning and ICT Unit of the Volta Regional Education Directorate.
The following day, Fellows Agnes Ayariga Atanga, Jennifer Degraft Ninson, Vida Agyeman, and Nimatu Siisu, organized a powerful and important session called The Power of Technology for Inclusive Education. This featured Miss Alice Mamaga Akosua Amoako, a Digital Social Entrepreneur and the Founder of the Autism Ambassadors of Ghana. Watch the recording here (passcode: cq+fc9q6).
Finally, Innovative Methods for Advancing Education for Rural Populations highlighted new strategies and innovations to enhance educational opportunities for rural populations. At Women Changemakers for Education, we believe these conversations, which bring together stakeholders in education to discuss best practices, challenges, and opportunities for growth, are incredibly important.
